Interview with a Leader: Engage Mentoring LIVE Featuring Don Cates

Each quarter, we conduct an Engage Mentoring LIVE event featuring successful leaders across the country sharing their perspective on leadership and mentoring. I had the great pleasure of interviewing Don Cates for our recent Engage Mentoring LIVE session.

Don Cates is the President and CEO of 3Rivers Federal Credit Union. 3Rivers started in 1935 and has assets of $1.2Billion, 83,000 members and 350 Team3 employees located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. 3Rivers is nationally recognized for its financial performance and workplace environment. He joined the Credit Union in October of 2011 as the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and became CEO a year later.

In 2016 Cates received the CEO of the Year for large companies from Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly. Prior to coming to 3River he was President/CEO and served on the board of Directors of AmericanTrust in Peru, Indiana. At 31 he was the youngest Bank CEO in the State of Indiana and served in that capacity for 10 years. His previous experience includes sales management, branch administration, and commercial lending. He was Chairman of the Miami County Economic Development Corporation for 5 years and has been active in Economic Development for over 15 years.

He is involved with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnerships Regional Opportunities Council, Fort Wayne Black Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Allen County serving as Vice Chairman of the Board and 2 years as Campaign Chair. Additionally, he served on the National Board of the Pass the Torch for Woman Foundation. He has previously served on the board for Junior Achievement of Northeast Indiana.
