Code of Conduct
Welcome to the Engage Mentoring community.
Mentoring is built on trust, respect, generosity, and shared responsibility. By participating in an Engage Mentoring program, including Engage Leadership Exchange™, the HR Leadership Council, the Women’s Leadership Council, or another Engage-supported mentoring experience, you agree to uphold the standards in this Code of Conduct.
These expectations apply to all participants, whether serving as a mentor, mentee, peer, council member, or program participant.
As a participant, I agree to:
Act with professionalism and respect
I will treat other participants with dignity, professionalism, and respect. I will not engage in harassment, discrimination, intimidation, bullying, threatening behavior, or other conduct that could reasonably make another participant feel unsafe or unwelcome.
I recognize that participants may have different backgrounds, perspectives, experiences, and opinions, and I will approach those differences with curiosity and respect.
Maintain confidentiality
Mentoring and peer conversations work best when participants can speak candidly.
I will protect confidential, proprietary, personal, or sensitive information shared with me through the program and will not disclose or use that information without appropriate permission.
I will not share another participant’s personal stories, business information, intellectual property, strategies, documents, ideas, or other confidential information for my own professional, commercial, or personal benefit.
Confidentiality does not prevent disclosure when required by law or when there is a reasonable concern regarding safety, unlawful conduct, harassment, or another matter that should appropriately be reported to Engage Mentoring or the relevant authorities.
Respect intellectual property
I will respect the ideas, materials, intellectual property, business concepts, and work product shared by other participants.
I will not use another participant’s ideas, products, materials, confidential information, or intellectual property to further my own business or financial interests without the participant’s express permission.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
I understand that mentoring is a professional development relationship.
I will not exploit a mentoring relationship for personal, financial, romantic, sexual, employment, or other inappropriate purposes.
I will respect another participant’s time, boundaries, preferences, and decision to decline an introduction, opportunity, request, or continued interaction.
Avoid conflicts of interest
I will disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that could reasonably affect a mentoring relationship.
If a conflict makes it difficult to participate objectively or appropriately, I will contact the Engage Mentoring team for guidance or request a different mentoring connection.
Do not misuse the community for solicitation
The Engage Mentoring community is designed primarily for mentoring, leadership development, peer learning, and meaningful professional relationships.
Participants may naturally identify opportunities to collaborate or do business together. However, I will not use access to the community primarily to solicit, sell to, recruit, fundraise from, market to, or otherwise commercially target other participants without their invitation or consent.
I will respect a participant’s decision not to pursue a business relationship or opportunity.
Communicate honestly
I will communicate truthfully and will not knowingly misrepresent my experience, qualifications, professional role, organization, relationships, or ability to provide assistance.
I will not make promises or guarantees regarding employment, promotions, introductions, investments, business opportunities, or other outcomes.
Participate in good faith
I will make a reasonable effort to honor mentoring commitments, attend scheduled meetings, communicate when plans change, and participate constructively in program activities.
I recognize that meaningful mentoring requires participation from both parties and that Engage Mentoring does not guarantee any specific professional, business, employment, or personal outcome.
Stay within appropriate areas of expertise
Mentors and participants are encouraged to share experience, perspective, questions, resources, and guidance.
Mentoring through Engage Mentoring is not a substitute for professional medical, mental health, legal, financial, accounting, or other regulated professional services.
When a participant raises an issue outside my experience or appropriate role, I will encourage them to seek qualified professional assistance when appropriate.
Protect participant privacy and program access
I will use participant contact information and program resources responsibly and only for appropriate program-related or mutually agreed professional purposes.
I will not share login credentials, participant directories, contact lists, program materials, recordings, screenshots, or other nonpublic program information with unauthorized individuals.
I will not record a mentoring session, group discussion, or participant conversation without the knowledge and consent of everyone involved.
Speak up when concerns arise
If I experience or observe conduct that may violate this Code of Conduct, I am encouraged to contact the Engage Mentoring program administrator.
Engage Mentoring may review concerns and take appropriate action, including providing guidance, changing a mentoring match, restricting participation, suspending access, or terminating participation when circumstances warrant.
Retaliation against someone who raises a concern in good faith is not permitted.
As a mentor, I agree to:
Put the mentee’s development and learning at the center of the mentoring relationship.
Listen, ask thoughtful questions, share relevant experience, and help the mentee explore options rather than directing the mentee’s decisions.
Encourage high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
Be truthful about my expertise, experience, relationships, and ability to assist.
Respect the mentee’s confidentiality, intellectual property, ideas, and professional relationships.
Avoid using the mentoring relationship primarily for my own professional, commercial, or financial benefit.
Recognize the limits of my experience and refer questions to Engage Mentoring or an appropriate qualified professional when needed.
Maintain professional boundaries and conduct myself in a way that supports a safe, respectful, and productive mentoring experience.
A mentor may serve as a:
A mentor’s role is not to provide all the answers. The most effective mentors create space for reflection, challenge assumptions, share perspective, encourage growth, and help mentees develop the confidence and judgment to make their own decisions.
By participating, you agree to uphold these standards.
By participating in an Engage Mentoring program, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to follow this Code of Conduct and applicable program Terms of Service.
Engage Mentoring may update this Code of Conduct periodically. Material changes will be communicated or made available to participants through the appropriate program or platform.
Failure to follow these standards may result in corrective action, suspension, or removal from the program.
